How to get to the venue

The venue

The conference is held in the Aula am Campus (1.11) at the Campus of the University of Vienna. The exact address is as follows:

Arriving by plane

Vienna International Airport

The most direct way to get to Vienna by plane is via the Vienna International Airport (Schwechat). To get to the city centre from the airport, you can take the S-Bahn (train S7), situated at the airport itself, to one of the central stations, such as Wien Mitte or Wien Praterstern. From there you can change to the underground lines (U3 and U4 at Wien Mitte; U1 and U2 at Wien Praterstern). A single ticket on the S-Bahn costs just a couple of euros, and you can buy these tickets using the machines at the station.

Alternatively, you can take the CAT (City Airport Train) from the airport directly to Wien Mitte in 16 minutes. Trains go every 30 minutes, and a single ticket costs €11. From Wien Mitte you can change to the underground lines U3 and U4. More information on the CAT here: https://www.cityairporttrain.com/en/home 

You can also get the bus from the airport to the city. Vienna Airport Lines offer a bus service for €8 (single) to get to Westbahnhof, one of the main train stations in Vienna, where you can change to the U6 underground line. If you prefer to take a taxi, you can call one of the main taxi services (31300, 40100, 60160 – you may need to dial 01 first). They offer a fixed price of €36 to get you from the airport to any destination in Vienna. Compare other taxi prices here: https://www.flughafentaxi-wien.at/

 

Bratislava Airport

Some airlines offer cheaper flights if you travel via Bratislava. You can then book a seat on the coach to get to Vienna with Flixbus. Prices range from between €5 and €10 per person for a single ticket. The bus stops off at Vienna International Airport before arriving at the Vienna International Bus Terminal, right next to the underground station Erdberg (U3). From here you can take the underground to some central stations such as Wien Mitte. Visit the Flixbus website here: https://www.flixbus.at/

 

Other airports in Austria

If you choose to travel via another airport, you can take the train into Vienna. Visit the ÖBB website to find connections to Vienna: https://www.oebb.at/

 

Getting to the conference venue

The conference is held at the university campus in the 7^th district in Vienna. There are a number of ways you can get there, depending on where you’re travelling from:

Tram

Lines 5 & 33: Get off at Lange Gasse

Lines 43 & 44: Get off at Lange Gasse

Lines 37, 38, 40, 41 & 42: Get off at Schwarzspanierstraße and walk 7 minutes (click here for directions).

 

Bus

Line 13A: Get off at Alser Straße / Skodagasse and walk a few minutes (click here for directions).

 

Underground

Line U2: Get off at Schottentor (Universität). From here you can take tram lines 37, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43 or 44 (43 and 44 are slightly more direct – see above), or campus is a ten-minute walk away from Schottentor if you prefer to walk. The easiest way is to walk up Universitätsstraße – click here for directions.

Line U6: Get off at Alser Straße. From here you can take tram lines 43 or 44 (in the direction of Schottentor – see above).

 

Travel tickets

If you buy a ticket with Wiener Linien (the public transport operator in Vienna), your ticket will be valid on all buses, trams and underground lines within Vienna. You can also use the S-Bahn (trains), as long as you stay within Vienna. Depending on how long you are staying, there are various options:

24 hours: €8

48 hours: €14.10

72 hours: €17.10

8-day ticket: €40.80 – If two people are travelling together, you can buy a single 8-day ticket and simply validate two strips (two “days”) for each day you travel, with each strip being valid for one person. In this way, you can get 4 days of travel. However, this means that you will always have to travel together!

Week ticket: €17.10 – Caution! This is not simply valid for one week from the point you buy it, but from Monday 00:00 to the following Monday 09:00. So if you buy it on Thursday, it will only be valid until the following Monday morning.

You can also get the “Wien Karte” for 24, 48 and 72 hours – this gets you access to all the public transport options, plus reduced entry on a number of attractions, museums, theatres, concerts etc. in Vienna.
